Davis & Floyd is seeking a Landscape/Civil CAD Technician to join our Charleston, SC team! The CAD Technician is responsible for assisting engineering staff in design development of landscape and civil projects. We are looking for a highly motivated professional with strong organizational and time management skills to support our team. This candidate will prepare preliminary drafts of projects, help to determine feasibility, create construction design documents, and generate accurate and detailed records of engineering and landscape architectural data.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following tasks:

  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D software to provide support to landscape architects and engineers by performing a variety of design/drafting activities, including routine layouts, detail drawings, sketches and diagrams.
  • Perform drafting operations for the determination of project plans
  • Develop and draft landscape and engineering drawings and plans
  • Perform fieldwork, documentation, research and drafting tasks of landscape and engineering data as requested by clients or managers
  • Review rough sketches, drawings, and other engineering data received from Landscape Architects and Engineers
  • Convert field survey data into topographic survey drawings and 3-D models suitable for producing drawings and layout data
  • Create detailed construction drawings of proposed improvements such as roads, bridges, drainage systems, water and sewer facilities, planting plans, and land development projects
  • Prepare 2-D and 3-D construction layout data suitable for staking by field surveyors or use in GPS controlled construction equipment
  • Maintain proficiency in automated design programs
  • Understand and implement client-specific CAD standards
  • Perform drafting for construction drawings and figures for various projects under the guidance of the project engineer in accordance with the selected CAD standards
  • Prepare maps, conceptual plans, cross sections, and other exhibits suitable for client presentations and reports
  • Interact and collaborate with in-house landscape architects and engineers to produce high-quality designs and drawings that meet the relevant CAD standards for the project
  • Perform regular computer software and AutoCAD maintenance, upgrading and troubleshooting
  • Maintain up to date working and technical knowledge of all procedural and improvement changes to computer hardware and software applications
  • Draft designs according to instructions provided
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in technical design with CAD coursework or equivalent combination of education and experience -or- Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school
  • Two or more years of design/drafting experience preferred
  • AutoCAD Certified
  • Ability to fully understand and follow highly complex oral and written instructions
  • Ability to operate, access, and maintain diverse software applications
  • Skill in updating, maintaining, operating and evaluating all AutoCAD software and related equipment
  • The ability to professionally interact with clients and staff
  • Must be a self-starter with a high attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Autodesk, Civil 3D, and AutoCAD required
  • Must be able to draft accurately and to meet deadlines
  • Experience with landscape architecture and civil engineering projects is a plus
